The School of Computing and Engineering’s steel sculpture has adorned the Quad since 2004. It was designed by the American Institute of Steel Construction as a teaching aid to help students get a visual understanding of steel framing and full-scale steel connections—something that’s hard to see in textbook diagrams. The piece consists of 25 steel members, 43 connection elements, 26 weld groups and more than 144 bolts.
