New business startups
In the last year, the UMKC Innovation Center’s Whiteboard to Boardroom program has resulted in nine startups, 15 jobs and 10 research/strategic collaborations. Here’s a sampling of the types of technologies being created:
CARDIOPTIMUS
Cardioptimus created the Embolisher, a safety device for use in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The minimally invasive device enhances the safety of TAVR, helping to eliminate the high stroke rate that remains a major hurdle associated with the procedure.
ZORILLA
Zorilla is changing the way commercial pharmaceuticals are developed by using computational technology that predicts problem interactions of a drug in the early stages of development. This enables the developing company to repurpose failed compounds and prevent costly failures.
UD2
UD2 has developed a neutron radiation detector, called neuPhone. The detector runs on an iPhone5 and shows a counts-per-second-rate or a dose rate of neutron radiation.
SEEKEDGAR LLC
This cloud-based software was created to search financial information on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s document collection and retrieval system. Reports can be customized to find financial and non-financial information.
